Wrap Up Warm!
2014 was an unusually mild year for the UK, with temperatures generally well above average, and notably high temperatures recorded in December and around Christmas. But the arrival of 2015 has seen the weather take a decidedly frosty turn, with the Met Office issuing an amber weather warning this week following the coldest night of the winter so far.
In the Scottish highlands, temperatures fell as low as -11 degrees Celsius, and while most of the country is (fortunately) much warmer than this, more low temperatures and snow fall is predicted over the coming days.
With icy conditions making walking treacherous and freezing temperatures making leaving the house a chore, now is the time to wrap up warm and invest in solid footwear which will ensure you keep your footing on the ice.
To keep you cosy and comfortable throughout the cold weeks ahead, Country Attire has a huge range of winter wear, from down-filled jackets to fleece-lined boots and mid-layers, which are warm and insulating as well as stylish.
In today's journal, we bring you our pick of stylish yet functional winter clothing and footwear, which will have you feeling warm and looking cool!

Canada Goose are world-renowned for their down-filled jackets, which are a favourite with the Hollywood elite, including Daniel Craig, Morgan Freeman and Emma Stone to name a few. The Ladies’ Shelburne Parka
has a thigh-length cut which covers most of the body, making it extra warm, and a feminine design which scores style points. It’s filled with luxurious duck down and has a coyote fur ruff for serious warmth and insulation. Pair with the Sorel Ladies’ Tivoli II Boot
, which has a fully waterproof upper to keep cold snow and slush out, and a fleece lining to keep toes warm. With most of our body heat escaping through the head, a warm bobble hat is a must. We love the CO/AT Ladies Clivedon Pom Pom Hat
, which has a chunky knit and real fur pom pom to the top. Finish with a pair of insulating gloves like the Johnstons Ladies’ Cashmere Button Loop Gloves
, which are made from cashmere for a luxurious feeling against the hands.
Keep out the chill: Men's
CANADA GOOSE MEN'S EXPEDITION PARKA - SPIRIT
STETSON STARKVILLE TRAPPER HAT - BROWN
SOREL MEN'S 1964 PAC NYLON BOOT - BLACK/TUSK
LACOSTE MEN'S KNITTED GLOVES - GREY
In freezing temperatures and intermittent snow, you need high-performing, heavy-duty outerwear to keep warm. The Canada Goose Men’s Expedition Parka
will keep you so snug you won’t even notice the mercury dropping. Originally developed to be worn by scientists in Antarctica, this jacket is suitable for wear in extreme low temperatures. Its 625 fill power white duck down filling will keep you effortlessly warm in a freezing UK winter (which is no match for this jacket). A sturdy pair of waterproof boots will keep feet dry and cosy; essential for staying warm over long periods. The Sorel Men’s 1964 Pac Nylon Boot
has a PU coated upper and vulcanised rubber toe shell, making it the perfect winter boot. Finish up with a pair of warm knitted gloves like this grey version from Lacoste
, and an insulating trapper hat
Keep out the chill: Children's
BARBOUR CHILDREN'S FLEECE LINED HUNTER HAT - OLIVE
NEW HUNTER KIDS' FLEECE WELLY SOCKS - RED
NEW HUNTER KIDS' CONTRAST SOLE WELLINGTONS - NAVY
CANADA GOOSE KIDS' LYNX PARKA - RED
Little people love to play out in the snow, but keeping them warm can be a struggle! Fortunately, Canada Goose make a range of children’s jackets which have all the insulation, warmth and wet weather protection of their adult jackets in a scaled-down size, like the Lynx Parka.
Trudging through snow means waterproof footwear is essential and with a high leg, wellington boots provide waterproof coverage almost up to the knee. We love the Hunter Original Kids’ Contrast Sole
wellies which are completely waterproof and feature a reflective strip for better visibility. Plus, a fleecy Hunter welly sock
can be added to keep toes extra toasty. Finally, keep body warmth trapped with a trendy trapper hat, like the Barbour Children’s Fleece Lined Hunter Hat
, and protect cold hands with a pair of insulating gloves.
