Exclusive Barbour International x Country Attire Collection

For over 80 years, Barbour International has been paying tribute to the brand’s rich and authentic motorcycling heritage, born out of 3rd generation Duncan Barbour’s love of motorcycling. Specifically engineered for keen riders, the Barbour International brand quickly became the motorcycling uniform of choice.
Playing a key role in the establishment of the Barbour International brand, the legendary A7 - the original Barbour International jacket remains a much coveted and beloved style for  customers to this day.

Barbour International - The birth of an icon

In 1936, Duncan Barbour developed the first A1 one-piece biker suit, crafted in signature dark green wax cotton and created specifically for racers to wear in the International Six Days Trial (ISDT).
In 1939, at the request of celebrated submarine officer Captain George Phillips, the International A1 suit was adapted for military use as a two-piece wax jacket and trouser set. The suit soon became standard issue for Britain's submariners.
As the A1 suit inspired the creation of the jacket worn on HMS Ursula by Captain Philips, the Ursula jacket then went on to inspire the creation of the International A7 jacket, one of the first ever motorcycle wax jackets. Thanks to the A1 suit and its direct descendant - the A7 jacket and the Barbour International brand was born.

Due to the popularity of the International jacket on the motorcycling scene, by 1957 it was worn by 97% of riders at the ISDT. In 1964, it was then worn by Steve McQueen and the rest of the US team, who stopped by in London to purchase their jackets on their way to the ISDT in East Germany. To this day, the Barbour International A7 jacket remains a firm favourite for those who want to emulate this authentic biker style.
