Duchamp
Luxury British menswear brand, Duchamp was founded in 1987 by Mitchell Jacobs after he discovered a collection of vintage cufflinks at a flea market in Paris. The name of the brand also has a French connection, having been inspired by the surrealist artist Marcel Duchamp, yet despite these French influences, the Duchamp brand has always displayed a definite British ideology. As such, the brand continues to take pride in the 'Britishness' of their company by maintaining the production of their cufflinks using the same Birmingham craftsman that has produced them since the company was founded. In addition, the fabric used by Duchamp is woven by a company in Suffolk, England which dates back to the 1700s, making it one of the oldest manufacturers in the United Kingdom to continue to design and weave silk. Duchamp originally focused on men's accessories, with their first collection comprising of ceramic and enamel cufflinks, followed three years later by their silk tie collection. The brand's early collections were stocked by high end department stores including Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Selfridges and the company's first stand-alone store opened in Notting Hill, London in 1998 which illustrated their growth. Today, the company has expanded to include leather goods, swimwear and underwear in their repertoire as well as tailored jackets in response to high customer demand. The core of the Duchamp brand very much lies in occasion wear, with a vast array of shirts, suits and jackets on offer, as well as luxury accessories such as ties, cufflinks and scarves. Marc Psarolis, CEO of Duchamp believes that "the DNA of the brand is colour" which is shown through the use of innovative designs and quirky colour combinations which produce high quality pieces with classic cuts and a contemporary finish.
