Johnstons

Johnstons of Elgin have been weaving beautiful cashmere and woollen products since 1797 when the company was established at its present site in Elgin, Morayshire, on the banks of the River Lossie in north-east Scotland. As far back as 1851 the company pioneered the weaving of Vicuna and Cashmere, and these fibres remain the foundation of the company's products today. Johnstons' knitwear is manufactured at two mills in Elgin, and, 170 miles south, in Hawick, in the Scottish Borders; the heart of the Scottish knitwear industry. Most of these fine garments are made from Johnstons' own yarns, and Johnstons' knitwear collection is fully fashioned, which means each garment is knitted to a shape to give the best fit. The final garment is carefully washed, milled and pressed using soft water from the local rivers; Teviot in Hawick and Lossie in Elgin, removing any remaining impurities and oils and creating that soft characteristic cashmere touch. Probably the finest cashmere garments anywhere. Johnstons of Elgin is proud to hold a Royal Warrant, appointed by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to acknowledge the excellence of the company's garments.
